Dictionary data

This application uses the JMdict, JMnedict, and KANJIDIC2 dictionary files. These files are the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group, and are used in conformance with the Group's licence (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Japanese language analysis

Japanese tokenization is powered by Sudachi and SudachiDict by Works Applications (Apache License 2.0). SudachiDict includes material derived from UniDic and mecab-ipadic-NEologd; their notices are reproduced in the third-party notices file installed with the app.

Vocabulary understanding uses a model fine-tuned from ku-nlp/deberta-v3-base-japanese by the Kurohashi-Chu-Murawaki Lab, Kyoto University (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Pitch accent data is derived in part from the kanjium project (CC BY-SA 4.0).

Verb and adjective deinflection uses the jp-deinflector library (MIT License).

Manga text recognition

The optional manga feature downloads open models at first use: manga-ocr by Maciej Budyś (Apache License 2.0) and a publicly distributed panel-detection model. These models are fetched directly to your machine and are not distributed by Jiwami.

Runtime components

ONNX Runtime (MIT License) and DirectML by Microsoft power on-device model inference.

FFmpeg (LGPL v3) handles media clip extraction. FFmpeg is a trademark of Fabrice Bellard. Jiwami ships an unmodified FFmpeg build; the corresponding source is available from the build provider linked in the installed notices file.

yt-dlp (Unlicense) handles supported streaming URL retrieval.

Application framework

The Jiwami desktop interface is made with Slint, used under the Slint Royalty-Free License.

The interface uses the Zen Old Mincho typeface (SIL Open Font License 1.1) and Fluent UI System Icons by Microsoft (MIT License).

Jiwami is built with the Rust programming language and open-source Rust libraries under MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses. The complete set of license texts is included in the THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt file installed with the application.
